New dives for dancers
The lower deck of a bathing ship has recently been converted into a party location. Meanwhile, the Fluc_Wanne celebrates the Indie scene, guests at the Phoenix Supper Club dine in style right down to their socks, and on Sunday people get together to chill out at Loft 16.
The Badeschiff (bathing ship) on Vienna’s Danube canal will continue to be one of the city’s hot spots. The water in the covered pool on the upper deck of the swimming baths — which occupy two permanently anchored barges — is pleasantly warm. The main attraction, however, is concealed below deck — the former hold has recently been converted into a venue where guests can dance away the night below the water line. From Tuesday to Saturday DJs spin records that run the gamut from disco to minimalist, and there is also a stage for live acts. And if floor seems to start swaying in the early hours the most likely culprit is the delicious cocktails served at the hold bar.
Partygoers at the Fluc_Wanne at Praterstern are sure to be on solid ground. The thick concrete walls are a reminder that the venue is converted pedestrian passage. This means that noise rock concerts don’t have to worry about the neighbours, and famous international and Austrian DJs such as DJ DSL can crank the sound up for hip hop, techno and electronic nights.
By contrast, the Phoenix Supper Club goes in for relaxing music and good food. The aim is for the stylish clientele to relax as they recline and dine. And if a guest should forget the dress code in a moment of carelessness, fresh socks are available for buy in the rest room. The doors open at midnight, and there is a new dance location party people.
Come Sunday, there is a chance to chill out in unusually dizzy heights. Loft16 in Vienna’s up-and-coming Ottakring district has a new take on afternoon tea — minus the string quartet, but with a tea bar and winter snacks. There is dancing until midnight to choice grooves from legendary DJ team SoulSugar.
