Traveling the Air: exhibition at Vienna’s Technical Museum
From luxurious flying boats and propeller planes with sleeper cabins to the early jets and the 787: the exhibition at Vienna’s Technical Museum depicts the development of the airplane from an exclusive means of conveyance to the mass transportation it has become today.
Today, air traffic around the world carries 1.6 billion passengers annually. The exhibition “Airworld” follows the historic changes of the special world of flying. It shows the technical developments of passenger planes and airports, the appearance of airlines, and the interiors of airplanes.
Take a look how the uniforms of the flight hostesses and the design of in-flight eating utensils have changed, touch the newest materials used in the construction of airplanes, learn more about the history of airports in Austria and the fuel consumption of airplanes, and admire a real de Havilland “Dove” (built in 1957), Great Britain’s first successful airplane for civil transportation.
